Where we work: Het Gooi and surroundings

We cover Het Gooi and the Vecht region: Hilversum, Bussum, Naarden, Muiden, Muiderberg, Huizen, Laren, Blaricum, Loosdrecht, Kortenhoef, Ankeveen, ‘s-Graveland, Nederhorst den Berg, Eemnes, Weesp, Baarn and Amersfoort. We drive from Almere and reach most of these within half an hour.

What the local figures show

We collect the official police figures for this region every month and publish them, including when they show that things are quieter than people assume. In the twelve months to juli 2026, Blaricum recorded 50,2 residential burglaries per 10,000 homes, the highest of the seven Gooi municipalities. Hilversum, the largest town, recorded 29,6.

The pattern that matters most for anyone moving into a detached house here: in neighbourhoods where at least fifteen per cent of homes are detached, we measure 47,7 burglaries per 10,000 homes, against 21,2 in neighbourhoods with almost no detached housing. That is a factor of 2,2.

This is not because Het Gooi is dangerous. It is because a detached house has four elevations, two of which are usually invisible from the road, mature planting that provides cover, and a driveway long enough that nobody notices someone walking up it. All the things that make these houses pleasant to live in also make them easier to approach unseen.

• Hilversum: the Trompenberg and Boomberg villas, the 1930s districts near the centre, and the Media Park.
• Bussum and Naarden: Het Spiegel, the Brediuskwartier, and the fortified town of Naarden with its conservation rules.
• Laren and Blaricum: large plots backing onto heathland and woods, long driveways, and listed properties.
• Huizen: including the harbour area, where boats and yards need a different approach.
• Loosdrecht and the lakes: properties with a second frontage on the water, which is the side nobody watches.
• Weesp and Muiden: historic centres and new developments, popular with people commuting to Amsterdam.

Do you cover Amsterdam?

We work in the Weesp and Muiden area, which now falls under the municipality of Amsterdam, and in Almere. For addresses further into Amsterdam, call and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right choice.

Where do the burglary figures come from?

Dutch police open data, published via Statistics Netherlands, updated monthly. We convert them to figures per 10,000 homes so that a village can be compared fairly with a town. The full breakdown by neighbourhood is on our Dutch burglary monitor.
