Alarm systems for homes in Het Gooi
Wired or wireless, with or without a monitoring centre. What works on a large plot, how to avoid false alarms, and what your insurer may require.
An alarm is only worth having if you actually switch it on. That means it has to go off when it should and stay quiet when the cat walks through the room. That difference comes from where the detectors are placed and how they are configured, not from the brochure.
Wired or wireless
Wireless systems have improved considerably. Sensors now relay to each other and cover substantial distances, which suits the large plots common in this area. They can send a photograph with the alert, so you can see who is on your property rather than simply being told that something happened.
Wired remains the better choice where a permanent, uninterruptible connection matters, or where thick walls and mature trees make radio unreliable. On most properties we combine the two: wired where it counts, wireless where it saves an unnecessary trench.
Large gardens and outbuildings
Sheds, pool houses, garages and bike stores are where we most often find nothing installed at all, even though that is where the expensive equipment is kept. Across Het Gooi, break-ins to sheds, garages and storage units continue to be recorded every month alongside house burglaries.
If you have a long garden, the useful alert is at the boundary rather than at the back door. That gives you time, which is the only thing that actually helps at two in the morning.
Monitoring centres
A monitoring centre is worth considering if you are away regularly or for long periods, because someone responds when you cannot. It is worth less if you are at home most of the time and would rather handle alerts yourself. We will say which applies to your situation, including when the honest answer is that you do not need one.
Frequently asked questions
Will pets set the alarm off?
Not if the system is configured properly. Detectors can be selected and positioned to ignore animals below a certain size, and cameras can confirm whether a person is present before the alarm responds. False alarms are the main reason people stop using a system, so we spend time on this at handover.
Does the alarm still work if the power or internet fails?
Yes. The panel has a battery, and alerts can be sent over the mobile network if your internet connection drops. We test both before we leave.
What does my insurer expect?
That depends entirely on your policy and on the value insured. Some policies specify a certification level, others simply require an alarm. Send us the relevant wording and we will tell you plainly whether we can meet it.
Can I control it from my phone?
Yes, including arming part of the house at night while you are in it, which is what most people with a large house end up using.
